Two of our Graphic Designers, Sarah & Kathryn, had fun presenting to Livonia Central School Students on Career Day!
Students got to see some items we’ve designed (including Livonia Bulldog Gear!) and a quick lesson in what goes into designing an effective advertisement (Headline, Graphic, Body Copy and Logo).
Many students recognized our popular publication – the Genesee Valley Penny Saver, along with items we’ve designed for local businesses like menus for Ember Woodfire Grill, etc.
Students asked a lot of good questions:
“What type of education is needed to have a successful career?” Sarah attended Genesee Valley Educational Partnership for Graphics and college at Roberts Wesleyan.
Kathryn took design classes at MCC and has a Fine Art degree from SUNY Geneseo.
“What is your favorite part of being a Graphic Designer?” Sarah – Fun co-workers and the opportunity to combine different creative skills like photography into design.
Kathryn – Having a different design challenge to work on each day!
“What did you originally want to be when you grew up?” Sarah – Anything to do with computers and advertising. Actually did not like art class!
Kathryn – Anything to do with art – but could not make a living as a watercolor artist. Fell in love with computers and design because of a fantastic professor at MCC!
Sarah and Kathryn – “We’d like to encourage students toward a career in graphic design. You can combine skills like photography, drawing, painting, writing and marketing. It’s something you can do full-time, or free-lance on the side. It’s a challenging, fun, creative outlet. AND – it’s very rewarding to see your designs around town!!
Best of luck to a great group of future designers.”
Thank you to Angela Grouse, HS Education to Employment at Livonia Central School for a successful event!
